Geri Halliwell: Motherhood made me grow up... but being a celebrity can make people remain children forever

Geri Halliwell has revealed that motherhood made her grow up, but being a celebrity has the ability to make people act like children forever.

The former Spice Girl is about to release a new album and after 20 years in the showbiz industry, says she feels better and more mature now than she ever has.

Speaking of her ‘celebrity’ status, Geri says: ‘You’re given an extraordinary power. It’s a door-opener.

‘But at one stage it did get a bit too much. Being a celebrity, you can remain a child forever, almost,’ she told the Daily Mirror.

The 38-year-old added: ‘You get away with more, you can get too pampered and it’s not healthy. I went through a stage of not having a clue who I was.’

Since quitting the girl band which brought her fame in 1998, Geri went on to conquer motherhood and her four-year-old daughter Bluebell made her ‘reassess her responsibilities’.

She refused to comment on her daughter’s father, film-maker Sacha Gervasi, but is more than happy to gush about her current boyfriend Henry Beckwith.

Geri has been dating the trader for two years and says: ‘Henry’s a lovely, lovely guy and I could gush.

‘And I’m a pretty good girlfriend! For his birthday I took him to Russia to fly on a Top Gun fighter plane.’

But although Geri has her hands busy with being a mother and girlfriend, she has still found time to launch her clothing range at Next, work on her upcoming album and stay in touch with her fellow celebrity pals.

Geri boasts George Michael, David Walliams and Russell Brand as her good friends and even wrote letters to George while he was in prison.

‘I’ve just seen George actually, he’s on really good form – probably the best I’ve seen him in years’, she says.

But her relationship with fellow pop star Robbie Wiliams has faded since he moved to Los Angeles.

Geri wasn’t invited to his wedding and says she hasn’t seen him ‘for ages’ and says that he’s living a different life now but has grown up a lot also.

The now-happy star insists that so far 2011 has been the ‘best year ever’ and is looking forward to what the future brings.
