Florence Welch has backed the Spice Girls to win the 'Performance of 30th Year' gong at the Brit Awards.

The Florence and the Machine singer lent her support to the five-piece, whose 1997 'Wannabe' / 'Who Do You Think You Are' medley is up for the special one-off prize.

"Spice Girls were huge for me when I was a little girl," she told the Daily Star. "And when Robbie was in Take That he was my favourite, so I'm glad he's getting the 'Outstanding Contribution To Music'."

The 23-year-old, who scooped the 'Brits Critics' Choice' award last year, admitted that she was overwhelmed at the 2009 ceremony.

"Last year I remember being in awe of Take That coming down in a spaceship then thinking, 'I've got to go and collect an award next'. Girls Aloud's performance last year was also amazing. I really like Cheryl's single 'Fight For This Love'."

Welch is nominated for 'British Female Solo Artist', 'British Breakthrough Act' and 'Mastercard British Album' for debut LP Lungs.

Meanwhile, Florence and the Machine have teamed up with Dizzee Rascal to perform a "wild" mash-up of two of their hits at the event, which is held at London's Earls Court tomorrow.
