Pregnant pop star MELANIE CHISHOLM will shun a home birth - because she is terrified something will go wrong.
The former Spice Girls singer is expecting her first child by partner Thomas Starr in February (09) and admits the pregnancy is taking its toll - robbing her of sleep and forcing her to stop wearing her beloved high heels.
And she is determined to head for hospital when she goes into labour - because she doesn't want to risk giving birth at home.
The Wannabe singer tells British magazine Reveal, "We're really excited now. The nausea has passed and I haven't had any weird cravings. I'm in my third trimester so this is when I really start to feel big and it's starting to become difficult to sleep. I've ditched the heels now and it's flat boots all the way.
"I want to give birth in hospital, rather than at home, just in case something goes wrong - especially as it's my first."
Chisholm is also adamant she wants the baby's gender to remain a secret, adding: "I don't want to know what's in there, I want it to be a surprise - I just hope there's only one!"
