Mel C prepares solo album for US release
Spice Girl Mel C is to release her solo album This Time in the spring.

The album, Mel C's fourth solo effort, will make its US bow on April 8 through the singer's own Red Girl records.

The Spice Girl revealed she started her own label to have more control over her work.

"When I was released from my contract with Virgin, I had options. I could attempt to sign with another major. I could go with an independent or start my own label.

"Having experience with a major label, it was nice to be able to do the exact opposite and own the copyright to my songs. I was very fortunate with the Spice Girls; financially, I was able to set up my own label and finance my own record."

The singer admitted This Time is a "personal" album.

"I think most of the songs on this album are more about relationships and personal feelings and fears and experiences."

Mel C was reportedly snubbed by Victoria Beckham at a recent solo show when Beckham was the only Spice Girl who failed to attend the gig.
