Mel B has described Dance Your Ass Off as a mixture of Biggest Loser, Dancing With The Stars and Big Brother, insisting that it has “soul”.

The Oxygen series – which returns for a second season next week – sees a group of contestants living together as they try to lose weight through dancing.

"It combines everything. I think it's got so much heart and soul, this show. I mean, there's been many times on set where I've been close to tears," explained the former Spice Girl, who hosts the show.

"You know, and these guys are really working hard. They're working out every day. They're dancing every day. They have that need to live a perfectly happy healthy life. They have a nutritionist on site. They have a doctor. They have everything that they need. They have a great trainer. It's really brilliant."

The singer – who has previously appeared on Dancing With The Stars - added that she is always on hand to offer "support" to the contestants.

"I'm more concerned with, 'How are you feeling today? How are your injuries?'" she said. "Because don't forget, they are dancing for hours on end every single day and their body is not used to that."

Dance Your Ass Off premieres June 7 at 11pm on Oxygen.
