She has never been one to fade into the background with her fashion choices.

And yesterday Mel B kept up her stylish streak in a bold red asymmetric dress, which she teamed with a studded black cage-style belt, flat sandals and a patent clutch bag.

The 35-year-old star held hands with husband Stephen Belafonte as they enjoyed a stroll in New York's West Village before having a meal at Italian restaurant Bar Pitti.

Mel looked toned and svelte in the little red number, which highlighted the slim figure she has worked so hard to achieve.

As well as regularly working out Mel, who recently launched Fitness First's International Fitness Week, has adjusted her diet to give her the optimum levels of nutrition.

Her personal trainer Joey Kormier said recently: 'The right food and nutrition are vitally important.

'Everything Mel eats is organic and she has flax seed oil, and salmon at least three times a week to help burn stomach fat.'

Mother-of-two Mel recently confirmed she and her family would be starring in a new reality TV show entitled The Mel B Project for the Style Network.

The show will focus on Mel's life in Los Angeles, as well as following her two daughters Phoenix Chi and Angel Iris as they go about their daily lives.

The singer also said it was high time somebody created a musical based on the songs of her former band the Spice Girls.

She said: 'It should have happened a long time ago!'

Mel said she was especially excited to have the producer behind Abba musical Mamma Mia! helping to make the show, based on the group's songs from the 1990s.

She explained: 'Everything is a big discussion right now, but we're definitely going to be doing a musical with Judy Craymer.

'It's the early creative parts of it, so we're just sitting down with her telling each of our individual stories, which are different but kind of the same.'
