Geri Halliwell proved unpopular when she appeared as a guest judge on The X Factor

After her X Factor stint, she's hit an all-time low

She's more famous these days for the ins and outs of her rocky relationships than for having any kind of career, so it's no surprise that Geri Halliwell jumped at the chance to be a judge on TV's most watched reality show The X Factor.

‘She was really excited when Simon Cowell asked her to guest judge,' a source tells Now.

‘She'd expressed interest in this role ages ago and seemed to be pinning everything on it. But her appearance turned into a disaster and she's gutted.'

Geri, 37, hoped it would lead to her either winning the coveted judging role in the near future or a stint on US X Factor, but she fell spectacularly at the first hurdle.

‘She's annoyed Natalie Imbruglia has since guest-judged and been asked back,' adds the insider.

Natalie was far more popular than Geri, who faced an irate audience chanting: "Get Dannii back!" whenever she spoke.

'She tried playing the baddie judge, but only Simon Cowell has the charisma to get away with that.

'She made too many ill-thought out comments and failed to gauge the audience's mood.' Now
can also reveal that after the auditions, Geri asked Simon if he'd have her back and he only replied: ‘We'll talk.'

Our source adds that Geri told friends that doing the show was a welcome distraction from her recent relationship troubles with aristocratic boyfriend Henry Beckwith. Last month, the 31-year-old was pictured holding hands with blonde Helen Fenwick
in the back of a cab at 3am.

Geri's feeling pretty low after a year of work disasters and troubles with Henry,' adds the insider. ‘Everything's hitting her hard.'
