Mel B is stylish for dinner date with her husband... but Stephen's outfit is just plain Scary

Her outlandish leopard-print and platform shoe ensembles earned her the nickname Scary during her Spice Girls heyday.

But last night Mel B appeared to be taking a leaf out of former band mate Victoria Beckham's book, turning up for dinner in Los Angeles stylishly attired in a chic black dress.

The same could not be said for her husband Stephen Belafonte though.

Stephen wore a bizarre tartan blazer for their date at Cleo restaurant, inside The Redbury hotel, on famed Hollywood and Vine.

He teamed the eye-catching jacket with jeans and a black shirt.

Mel B, 35, added some sex appeal to her little black dress with pushed-up cleavage and waist-length blonde curls.

Clutching his hand, chic Mel did not look perturbed by her husband's odd ensemble.

The couple dined at Middle Eastern-themed Cleo, part of the exclusive sbe hospitality group, which also runs SLS Hotel, Katsuya restaurant and Hyde Lounge.

Cleo opened in November to rave reviews, and has already been rated among the top ten restaurants in the city by Los Angeles magazine.

Hilary Duff was also spotted at the celebrity favourite last night.

The mother-of-three, who stars in her own reality series It's A Scary World, was in high spirits, seemingly ignoring the recent press attention over her sister's revelation that they no longer speak.

Danielle Brown, who used to be extremely close to her famous sibling, has revealed that the pair have not been in contact for two years.

She told OK magazine that their falling out came after the family 'expressed concerns' over Mel's relationship with Belafonte.

But Mel and Stephen, who married in June 2007, looked closer than ever last night.

They have just returned from a ski holiday in Utah, where the former Spice Girl attempted skiing for the first time.

She tweeted this week though that the sport was 'not her thing' and she preferred watching others doing it.

The singer revealed on her TV show recently that the couple attend marriage counselling.

She said: 'The good thing about relationship counselling is that problems get squashed before they get too big.

'We get touch ups on the way, so we'll never get to the point where we're like, "Oh my god, we're getting divorced." '

She added: 'I think we'll just kill each other instead!'
