We reckon there is two reasons for Mel B’s smile – firstly she’s back in the UK (which we’re also happy about) and secondly she knows everyone is looking at her in a figure-hugging white dress.
Now the sun is shining and summer is almost here, it’s time to welcome white back into your wardrobe. Mel, known as Scary Spice, made some memorable – and risky – fashion choices when she was in the Spice Girls. So when we bumped into her in London’s Mayfair hotel, we asked if she had any regrets, how her style had evolved and her fashion forecasts for summer.
Qs: Do you regret the leopard print outfits you wore in the Spice Girls?
“No way! It was all the rage at the time. A little bit of animal print is still in and so are the jumpsuits we used to wear. The only thing I may regret is the big platform trainers.
Qs: We’ve heard rumours you want to do your own fashion line?
“I would love to, but it’s just a matter of finding the time. I’m working on the Spice Girls musical with the girls, I have been doing a bit of acting on stage and I have some film work coming up and then I have two kids to look after. If it happens then great, but I need to be able to fit it into what I am doing already.”
Qs: Are you jealous of Posh Spice’s fashion success?
Posh has done so well, she’s an inspiration if anything. She’s a mum and a fashion icon, which is what I’d like to be.
Qs: What would be in your fashion range?
“Sexy things! Not as in underwear but dresses and trouser suits that make women embrace their feminity whatever their size.”
Qs: What will you mainly be wearing this summer?
“As I spend a lot of the time in LA, it’s more casual out there so I’ll probably be in denim shorts and vests in the day and then a sporty summer dress at night.”
Mel’s white dress looked sporty enough and there is a copy at Very in the form of this South linen mix dress.
For some waist-cinching detail, which is super flattering, add a wide belt like this Glam by Caprice stud belt.
There’s nothing scary about this look – it’s 100% stylish!
