THEY promised us there would be no more SPICE GIRLS after the reunion tour ended.

But MEL B just can't resist an opportunity to get up on stage clad in leopard print, brandishing her whip.

Scary Spice and husband STEPHEN BELAFONTE have put together a deal for the girls to reform one last time - at the World Cup in South Africa.

Mel is determined to persuade the group to perform a one-off concert in the same week the tournament kicks off next June.

She has already got Ginger Spice GERI HALLIWELL, Baby EMMA BUNTON and Sporty MELANIE CHISHOLM on board.

But VICTORIA BECKHAM isn't so keen.

And Mel is trying to convince the rest to crack on without Posh if necessary.

A pal of the Leeds lass said: "Mel's determined to get the girls back together for the World Cup and wants them to plough ahead as a foursome if Victoria doesn't want to take part.

"She has got the others excited by the idea of a one-off appearance. They are very interested."

The Spice Girls reformed in late 2007 for dates in the US and Europe, including 17 gigs at London's O2.

They were due to play in Beijing, Sydney, Buenos Aires and South Africa's Cape Town, but the girls cut those dates.

This would be a great chance to make it up to the South African fans who were let down.

The country also has a special place in Girl Power history.

The feisty fivesome, who are all mums now, met NELSON MANDELA and PRINCE CHARLES there in 1997.

The South African president called the group his "heroes".

I'd imagine the girls' husbands and boyfriends will be backing the World Cup plan - so they can blag a free trip to the tournament.

Beckham might still be picked of course.

Maybe netting a freebie was Belafonte's plan all along.
