Music mogul SIMON COWELL has reportedly asked VICTORIA BECKHAM to act as a guest judge on the upcoming season of AMERICAN IDOL.
The former Spice Girl will reportedly start work on the U.S. show this week (ends09Aug09) after longterm Idol star Paula Abdul sensationally quit the judging panel on Tuesday night (04Aug09).
Abdul was locked in fierce negotiations with TV executives to renew her contract for the 2010 season but announced to her fans in a series of emotional postings on her Twitter.com page that she wouldn't be returning to the TV talent show.
And Cowell wasted no time in lining up her replacement - reportedly enlisting 35-year-old Beckham to help him head up the panel for two episodes on the new series.
A source tells Britain's Daily Mirror newspaper, "Victoria is hugely flattered as this is one of the highest profile gigs in America.
"It really is a big deal... Victoria's profile Stateside has never been higher. Network bosses would love to give her the job full-time and it looks like it's there for her if she wants it."
But Beckham is refusing to join the panel permanently - so that she can concentrate fully on her fashion ventures.
The source continues, "At the moment, Victoria's main priority is fashion. She doesn't really need any distractions. She'll also be back at New York fashion week in September to launch her 2010 collection.
"However, Victoria's appearance on American Idol is sure to provide a massive ratings boost in the U.K. so, really, everyone's a winner."
