Sitcom director Spiers dies aged 63

Sitcom director Bob Spiers, who worked on shows such as Absolutely Fabulous, Fawlty Towers and Dad's Army has died aged 63, the BBC confirmed.

The Corporation said Glasgow-born Spiers started out as an assistant floor manager before becoming one of the BBC's most prolific directors of situation comedies.

Spiers directed the Spice Girls' movie Spice World, when the band were at the height of their fame in the late 1990s.
