After several public romances that have ended in break-ups, Geri Halliwell is still enchanted by the dream of a "long relationship," as she finds the "idea of the swan that mates for life" to be quite comforting. However, for the former Spice Girls singer, her journey to find a life-long partner is one that has been made much easier after Geri welcomed her first child, daughter Bluebell Madonna in 2006 -- a responsibility that has allowed Geri to evolve from a "very fearful girl who was always expecting to be found out" into a happier and more confident woman. "People have seen me as this ballsy Spice Girl...this LA super-thin yoga freak...and now a mum," says Geri who goes on to admit she has "changed throughout those years."
Crediting herself with being "much more balanced" as a mum, the 36-year-old has found herself to be inspired by 2 ½-year-old Bluebell as Geri has discovered a new sense of comfort in her own skin. After recently wearing a bikini during a photo shoot -- a moment that Geri recalls as "terrifying" -- the singer came to a realization that, despite her frequent checks in the mirror to reveal her "big apple cheeks," the fantasy of "chasing after perfection is mad. You have to let go and accept that you may not be perfect, but you're good enough." After a battle with eating disorders, Geri -- who forgoes working out to spend time with Bluebell -- is instead concentrated on "being an example" to her daughter.
"Motherhood has changed me. In the past, I always had my hang-ups, believing I wasn't pretty enough, or a good enough singer, or thin enough. But now I'm much more accepting of myself. A lot of my body issues have naturally settled down. I eat healthily, drink lots of water, and try to get lots of sleep."
Finding such happiness as a mother, Geri looks forward to making Bluebell a big sister, as she shares that the possibility of adoption has always been on her mind as "something I want to give a lot more serious thought to." However, in the mean time, the proud mama jokes she can count on her daughter for help when she is finally ready to have a second child! "I do always say Bluebell is like some sort of fertility doll. Five friends got pregnant after playing with her and then Melanie [Chisholm] gets pregnant after the tour," laughs Geri.
Bluebell is Geri's daughter with scriptwriter Sacha Gervasi.
